The 2025 X Prize challenge

The Collingwood-Alliston Pipeline Design Competition, one of the X Prizes hosted by the Biomimicry Commons, invites teams to re-imagine the aging water infrastructure that connects Collingwood and New Tecumseth through an easement from Clearview to Georgian Bay. With rising costs and growing demands, the challenge is to design a solution that not only addresses the current inefficiencies but also applies nature-based principles to create a more sustainable and adaptable system.

Fighting nature is expensive.

In the middle of a housing crisis, it can drive up costs and stop developments in their tracks. And this high price tag only goes up the further north you go in Ontario. But we need water, and to move water, to where the people are. In the complex and diverse landscape of Georgian Bay, we need to work with nature to deliver fresh water from the Bay to the several small towns and proposed developments along the pipeline - all while reducing costs and improving efficiency.
